Review & Giveaway: Benu Pixie Fountain Pen

When Ana goes to pen shows, we all get gifts. Why should the Baltimore show be any different?

Ana has recovered from her traveling and we got together for coffee this past weekend. She presented me with two boxes, courtesy of Luxury Brands USA, holding two of the new BENU Pixie Fountain Pens. You know what that means right? One for me and one for you!

L to R: Franklin Christoph x Vanness 45, BENU Pixie, BENU Pixie, Kaweco AL Sport Iguana Blue

The Benu Pixie is a new entry into the pocket pen, perfect for every day carry. And this one is tiny! It’s shorter than both the Kaweco AL Sport and the Franklin Christoph 45, coming in at 3.58″/9cm closed, and  4.75″/12cm posted. I don’t generally post my pens, but this one definitely needs it, even in my small hands!

The BENU Pixie ranges in price from $59-72 depending on design (solid resins are $59, whereas dual color with glitter are $72). They are international cartridge filled only – even the Kaweco converter is too big for this tiny pen. They are available in 10 colors (shown here in Emerald Sea/F Nib and Coffee Brown/EF Nib) and you can choose EF, F, M and B steel nibs.

How do they write? I chose to test the Coffee Brown since it kind of goes along with my Mocha Mousse year.  I popped in a cartridge and it was off to the races. The ink flowed well into the nib and it wrote right away. The EF nib had a bit of feedback, but wasn’t too scratchy and the pen was comfortable in my hand. I did try without posting and that wasn’t terrible comfortable, but your mileage may very. Overall, I think this is a nice way to get the look of fun resin pens at a more entry level price tag, since comparable models from Carolina Pen Co., Franklin Christoph and the like are more expensive.

So that’s my take on it! But wait, there’s more.

THE GIVEAWAY: One lucky reader is going to win their choice of the two BENU Pixie pens above! Your pen will arrive in original packaging and with a few cartridges in as close to matching colors as I have.

Note: I inked the Coffee Brown for the purposes of this review and will clean it thoroughly if that is your choice – otherwise you can choose the pristine Emerald Sea.

  1. The Coffee Brown looks to be me more my speed, but I need a bigger nib, so Emerald Sea is my choice. (It’s a Fine, right?)

  2. Holy cow, those are tiny! One of my currently inked is a Kaweco Sport, and for it to really write comfortably I always have to post it, so thank you for adding that to the comparison table because that definitely gives me a sense of scale.

I’d go with the Emerald Sea because in these turbulent times, anything that reminds me of the calm and peace of the ocean, of open water, is welcome!

  3. These pens are too cute!! I would normally go for anything blue and glittery, but the Coffee Brown is really elegant, I’d love to carry it around for quick notes and lists.

  4. Carry me down to the sea, please!
Oh, to have the Emerlald Sea would be a dream. What better way to melt away life stressors than with a dip in the ocean and some interesting ink. Thanks for this giveaway!

  5. I love that Benu keeps coming out with wonderful pens! If I were to choose one of this teeny tiny little pens, it would have to be the Coffee Brown. Just looks so earthy! I dig it! If I don’t win, no big deal! Congrats to the winner. ❤️

  6. I usually prefer a fine nib, but that brown one is too pretty to pass up. This might be the only way I get to see one of these pens!

  7. I’m trying to be braver about carrying a fountain pen with me rather than just using them at a desk. I worry about ink-related chaos.
While I do love an extra fine tip, the emerald sea pen is my idea of a good time – glitter, multi-colored, fun! And FWIW, I’m completely flexible on ink colors. I only have blue right now, so anything else would be novel!
Thanks so much for organizing this!

  8. Ohhhh those are cute, and I would be happy with the Emerald Sea choice, if you still want the Coffee. And I know I heard this somewhere that you CAN use a Kaweco converter if its the one with the little fold down arm, lever thingy. Sorry end of day and my brain is so tired and I can’t think of my words.

  9. Sitting at my desk watching it snow, I could use an Emerald Sea in my life right now! Thank you for the chance to win it. And for triggering lovely thoughts of a warm tropical beach.

  10. Oh goodness they are both stunning! There is something compelling about the coffee brown, and would be a way to get my coffee fix in the afternoon without being up all night…I think I’d choose that one.

  11. Oh, my, how cute! I have one Kaweco but this would be so wonderful to have, too! The Emerald Seas is for sure right up my alley! What a wonderful giveaway – crossing my fingers & toes on this one !

  12. I would absolutely LOVE the emerald sea one, but will take whichever you’d like to send my way 😉

  13. I’d definitely go with the Coffee Brown. I like BENU, but it can be hard to find one that fits my preferred style. The Coffee Brown looks good though! And since it has the EF nib, that’s also a big plus.

  14. I’m literally waiting on delivery of my Pixie in Aurora Gold but Emerald Sea was also high on my list when I was choosing – I just love that colorway!

  15. These are so adorable! The Emerald Sea one really appeals to me. I’m not a big pocket pens but these are really calling to me.

  16. Well I’m a sucker for Coffee pens. That Emerald Seas is a beauty. I guess I’d choose Emerald Seas just to get the glitter. That’s Benu, isn’t it, glitter.

    Thank you for the giveaway.

  17. I’d love the Benu Pixie in Coffee. I have been admiring this exact pen to use in my EDC. I’ve never used an EF nib but I am left handed and it might be the perfect nib for me. Thank you.

  18. The Emerald Sea is gorgeous! But then again coffee is necessary for life. So is Benu actually. Myself, I am a sucker for pocket pens. I have a lot of pockets and a pen for every pocket sounds like heaven on earth.
    Great review by the way.

  19. Would love to win one. Have never owned a Benu fountain pen and always hoped to one day. I love that they were in Ukraine and had to leave the country because of the war but have stayed in business and do such innovative work! I would pick the chocolate brown. So nice of them to offer this chance for people to try their product like this. 🙂

  20. That’s a difficult choice to make… both are gorgeous! But I think I would go with the Emerald Sea pen.

  21. I would love either of these pens; the Pixie is adorable! But if I had to choose just one, I think it would be Emerald Sea.

  22. Ooh, that Coffee Brown is calling my name! It looks gorgeous and it seems like it writes like a dream.

  23. I think I’d prefer the emerald/blue, mostly because I prefer a fine nib more than an extra-fine. This would be my first Benu!

  24. Would really love the coffee brown one! This would be my first time with a Benu and your review has me wanting…please fulfill my desire with this one!

  25. I would choose Emerald Sea because my sweet love loves blue pens–blue like the sky, blue like the ocean, blue like flax flowers, blue like sapphires, blue like indigo, all blues.

  26. I love how tiny these are! I’m always on the hunt for more pocket pens! I’d love the coffee one, if I win.

  27. The Emerald Sea looks interesting (besides have my favorite colors). These are the reasons people still like to write with fountain pens.

    1. The coffee brown pen is the one I’ve been looking at, but the sparkle matched with the blue is gorgeous. In short I’m torn between the two.

  28. Such a touch choice as it depends on my mood at the moment. Because I’m vacationing by the sea currently, I think I’d have to say the Emerald Sea. Thanks for the review, as I’ve wondered about these pens!

  29. If I had to choose, I would go with the Emerald Sea colorway. That teal green and cobalt blue gradient reminds me of the reaction between copper nitrate and sodium hydroxide! Bonus points for the little copper-toned glitter patches too.

  30. Of the two, I like the Emerald Sea the best. I’ve been eyeing these pens with great interest. Pocket pens are my favourite and these are the prettiest of them all!

  31. I LOVE the Emerald Sea! The blue is stunning, the green is beautiful and the gold, icing on the cake. I love how tiny they are too!

  32. Those little things are gorgeous! If I had to pick, I think the Emerald Sea would be my preference. I’m a sucker for blues and greens!

  33. I love the coffee brown color, as I use primarily brown ink- thank you for the opportunity and the review!

  34. My current favorite fountain pens are BENU. I love sparkly more as I get older and my eyes get weaker! I have been eyeing the Pixie so much, but telling myself I have ENOUGH fountain pens! However, if you are so kind as to give me one, well, what can I say? I prefer the blue (always) but the brown looks scrumptious also. Thanks for your kind sharing.
