Buyer Beware: Nibs.com

Earlier this week I came across a thread on Reddit regarding Nibs.com bankruptcy and the fact that the website is still up and running, despite the business being shuttered and no orders being fulfilled. Please do not place an order with them!

I want to be clear: I don’t have any official knowledge or insight into the situation. What I do know is that Nibs.com filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy as of May 31, 2024 in the State of Florida. During the proceedings the business was turned over to a court-appointed trustee. The website is currently unmonitored, and orders are going unfulfilled.

If you have made a purchase from Nibs.com since May 31, 2024, I encourage you to contact your credit card company or bank (or PayPal) to inform them of the situation and request a refund.

  1. They filed for bankruptcy LAST MAY?!?! And didn’t take down their website and were still taking orders?

    HOLY CROW!!!

Thank you for your post. I wouldn’t have known, otherwise.

    @.@

  2. So there is some sketch happening about Nibs.com.

I was getting the same email newsletters from both Nibs & and other FP Family group owned pages before I unsubscribed from them all finally (they just had different headers).

Also there’s a newer post on the reddit with a letter from Nibs.com that … I dunno.

Lastly, I also saw someone mention that if Nibs.com the domain gets sold off, the community should purchase it & keep it in the community.

So upsetting in so many ways. Does anyone know if Mottishaw is still grinding, or has he fully retired after the sale?

  3. What gets me about that letter is that they said they never charged anyone for Nakaya pens until they had them ready to ship out. Yet, there are so, so many threads on r/fountainpens of people basically getting charged then ghosted by Nibs.com.

To be honest, this just seems like par for the course with The Pen Family brands (they bought Nibs.com when Mottishaw retired from it). They’re like vulture capitalists of the pen world. Everything I’ve heard/seen about them shows that once they acquire a brand, that brand’s quality/customer service craters while prices go up.

  4. I had a personal experience them in September when I ordered the Pelikan Cream and Blue. Of course they charged me in full the moment the order was placed but then…. Fast forward to the end of October and still no pen. Multiple emails and calls all went unanswered. The pen was listed on their website as available and in stock (as well as with most other vendors.). I finally filed a request for refund from PayPal for failure to deliver and guess who called claiming that my pen had just come in and was shipping that week?!? I’ve ordered nearly $5000 worth of goods from them over the years but bankrupt or not… never.. ever… again. What a bunch of sleaze-bags.
