Book(s) Review: Kevin Hearne, Ink & Sigil Series

One of the perks of being a member of the Well-Appointed Desk Patreon is that there’s a book club! Several months of the year members choose a book, read along and discuss. Some of the books are specifically about pens, ink, and other stationery. Others are more loosely related, or just a fun read.

Today I want to talk a little about a series that is fountain pen adjacent. From Penguin Random House:

New York Times bestselling author Kevin Hearne returns to the world of his beloved Iron Druid Chronicles in a spin-off series about an eccentric master of rare magic solving an uncanny mystery in Scotland.

Author Kevin Hearne is a fountain pen aficionado and that rare magic? Sigils made with a fountain pens and specially made inks that become magical spells! If you love a bit of old-fashioned other-worldly magic (think goblins, and fae) set in a somewhat modern setting (current day Scotland), this series of three books is quite the romp. And while we love reading paper books, you could give the audiobooks a try – the narrator does an excellent job of bringing Al’s dialogue to life with a Scottish accent.

The first two books in the series, Ink & Sigil and  Paper & Blood are fabulous, and I need to read Candle & Crow, which debuted this past fall.

Books can also be purchased in the Well-Appointed Desk Bookshop on Bookshop.org. We make a small commission on each book purchased through our shop.
