Giveaway: Galen Leather zippered 10-slots pen case with magnetic insert!

I told you Ana brought back the goodies from the San Francisco Pen Show! One of the fun things she brought back was a new Galen Leather zippered 10-slot pen case ($58). Now we’ve given these away on the blog before, but this one has a new feature: magnetic inserts.

All Galen Leather cases come with soft suede-like leather inside, and elastic pen loops to hold your pens so they don’t touch each other or get damaged in transport. But now they’ve made that insert detachable, so that you can remove it to load your pens and magnetically pop it back into place when you’re done. That means that for tall pens (like my Heinze pen or my Esterbrook) there’s less risk of the pen getting scratched by the zipper. Neat, huh?

So here’s the deal: I have one 10-slot zippered leather pen case in Crazy Horse Brown from Galen leather available to one lucky winner. I’ll choose one lucky winner and throw in some Desk swag! Also – fountain pens pictured are NOT included. (get your own pens ya scallywags!)

TO ENTER: Leave a comment below and tell me about your favorite pen case? If you don’t have a favorite pen case, then tell me which pens you’ll be storing in your new Galen case! One entry per person.

If you have never entered a giveaway or commented on the site before, your comment must be manually approved by our highly-trained staff of monkeys before it will appear on the site (wouldn’t a monkey case have been fun???). Our monkeys are underpaid and under-caffeinated so don’t stress if your comment does not appear right away. Give the monkeys some time.

FINE PRINT: All entries must be submitted by 10pm CST on Friday, September 20, 2024. All entries must be submitted at wellappointeddesk.com, not Twitter, Tumblr or Facebook, okay? Winner will be announced on Monday. Winner will be selected by random number generator from entries that played by the rules (see above). Please include your actual email address in the comment form so that I can contact you if you win. I will not save email addresses or sell them to anyone — pinky swear. If winner does not respond within 5 days, I will draw a new giveaway winner. Shipping via USPS first class is covered. Additional shipping options or insurance will have to be paid by the winner. We are generous but we’re not made of money. US and APO/AFO only, sorry.

  1. I have a few favorite pen cases depending on the purpose.

For my fountain pens, I have two 3 slot pouches from TheCoffeeMonsterzCo and one has elastic with snaps so it can fit around a journal/notebook. I find this handy for taking my fountain pens on the go and the one with elastic also has a zipper pocket for a few small rolls or samples of washi tape.
For journaling excursions, I love my creative case from Archer & Olive. There’s multiple pockets for storage… 2 sets of snaps to string rolls of washi on for safe keeping, and room for 30 pens/markers on a snap in insert. It also has space for an A5 journal among all of this.

  2. I love that Galen Leather always has something new coming out! My favorite pen case is my Nock Sinclair. It’s been through the ringer, but safely holds my precious pens.

  3. I don’t have a favorite pen case. I buy cheap ones off Amazon just to protect my EDC. I do have a Galen wallet and the leather is soooo buttery soft. (((sigh)))

  4. Oh my goodness, it’s so gorgeous! No favorite pen case right now, so far as pens – I’m a dip pen gal, so I’d use this for my John Neal ergonomic wooden nib holders for sure, plus my favorite purple Zebra disposable fountain pen and some refillable brush pens I’m in love with right now.

  5. I am a fountain pen rookie so my pens aren’t very fancy…yet. I would store my Kaweco mint , my Jinhao shimmery sand, and my Pilot Kakuno.

  6. My only pen case is an old glasses case that I have re-purposed for my less valued pens. The Galen case looks much better! Thank you for the giveaway.

  7. The first Pen I would put in would be my Diplomat Zepp in gold trim pen, then would be a sailor large pen, My Leonardo Momento Zero in prugna which the pen is a one of a kind because one of the branding words on it is miss spelled. We are going to start a banana go fund me page for the staff monkeys so they can be fed

  8. I have an A6 leather cover from Galen leather that was a second. I absolutely love it! I would put my TWSBI Vac 700r in iris, my three Lamy’s, Pelikan M205 in apatite, my Sailor 1911 Compass in sunny yellow, my Conklin Symetrik, my Levenger True Classic, a spot for a Kaweco Sport that hasn’t arrived yet (hurry, please so I can write with you!) and a spot dedicated for my next pen! Galen Leather products are the BEST!!!!

  9. I don’t use a multi-pen case at the moment. If I won this one I would put in my most precious pens that should not just be hanging out inside a coffee mug like they are at the moment! So that would be my Montblanc 146 glacier blue, my Esterbrook J series, Pilot Custom 912 with FA nib, 2 Scribo Piumas, GvFC purple guilloche, Pelikan 600 Stresseman, Schon pocket which is one of the gorgeous hammered patina ones that he did last year, my Elbwood copper pocket pen… and one slot for the Dialog CC in navy that I’m coveting. In the meantime I could put one of my indie-made pens in there.

  10. Thanks for doing this give-away. The pens I would put in the case are the one’s special to me. Gifts, or special nibs ground to my specs. For example a Franklin Christoph Model 02 Intrinsic purchased at the 2019 Atlanta Pen show. The nib is a black High Performance Steel Broad with a Stub Italic Gradient (S.I.G.) grind. Dr. Audrey Matteson ground and tuned it for me while I (patiently) waited.

  11. Right now my favorite pen case is a handmade case made from felted wool. There’s some extra padding in the liner so my pens are nice and secure!

  12. My current pen case is a Lochby Tool Roll. I love it, but I do get worried about damaging some of my more pricey pens. Especially after discovering catastrophic cracks in one of my aliexpress knockoffs.

  13. I love Rickshaw’s pen coozie cases. I have four of the cases (and 5 or 6 coozies). It’s time to break out the Headless Horseman case for the season!

  14. My favorite pen case (which probably not a pen case but I use it as one lol) is the Hard Shell Case (NÄHE) by Hightide. I can put all of my markers, pens, washi tapes, stamps and even my small versafine ink in there for when I’m on the go and decide to journal at a nice cafe! It also keeps everything protected since it’s a hard shell case 🙂

  15. My favorite pen case has been a Lihit Labs zipper model … sleek and very functional. But I’d definitely like to try this one!

  16. Ten years ago, my wife and daughter got me a Nock Hightower that remains an excellent pen/notecard carry. Last year, they got me the Nock/Rickshaw Sinclair Model S in matching colors. I won’t pick between the two and you can’t make me! 🙂

  17. I have a Rickshaw Bags Sinclair case that I really love. It’s my favorite EDC pen case. But It’s fun to think about which pens might migrate to a new case since pens sometimes like to move around a little. And occasionally hide somewhere.

  18. Nifty leather pen pouch from Innovative Journaling with a removable 5 pen slot. Well made, lined with a lovely fabric

  19. I really like the magnetic feature of this case and I do like Galen’s products. I use different cases and wraps for different purposes: large, soft ones for home, sturdier ones for taking pens out of the house. This case would be incredibly useful for travel. I like to have an assortment of pens; this case would get to make friends with some Franklin-Christophs, a TWSBI or two, some Opus 88s, the occasional Pelikan… the possibilities are myriad.

Thanks to you all for giving us a chance to enjoy this case on line and maybe in person!

  20. Thank you for this giveaway! I don’t have an official pen case. I keep some of my pens in my writing desk upstairs, three in a metal glasses case downstairs, and one lives with my gel pens in an old makeup case in my purse. I’m still fairly new to fountain pens and haven’t figured out a storage solution yet.

I would keep my two Pilots and my True Writer in the case, but my mother’s Montblanc will continue to live in my writing desk. I don’t want to take it out of the house and take a chance of losing it for sentimental reasons.

  21. My favorite pen case is the Lihit Lab book style pen case. I’ve had mine all through high school and now in college, and it’s still going strong!

  22. I have a three pen and a two pen Rickshaw sleeve that I carry daily for work and class. (what can I say, I color code notes)

  23. My favorite pen case is my “Good Vibes” Rickshaw Sinclair R because makes me so happy to see it and it just holds so much! Right now I’ve got my two favorite fountain pens and a Retro51 in the three pen sleeves; six dual-tip brush markers, a ruler, and a silver Sharpie in the inside pocket; blotter paper and a washi tape card in the space in between; and a mechanical pencil, click eraser, and small notebook in the outside pocket. It’s like a Bag of Holding for stationery!

  24. I use a Sinclair (in coffee brown with purple lining) every day. Love it. But I love me some Crazy Horse, and who doesn’t need another pen case? I have a journal in that color from them and it’s gorgeous.

  25. This looks like just what i need. Currently using an old battered Paradise Pen 5 pen case. Will store my 5 pens inked in rotation.

  26. I store my EDC pens in a pen case that I made from the back pocket of a pair of jeans. It sits on my desk, ready to grab and does a decent job of keeping them safe on the go.

  27. My favorite pen case is a Rickshaw 2-pen coozy with a 8-bit style inventory of RPG-items printed on it.
My husband got it for me for a Christmas as it reminded him of my favorite games, the Legend of Zelda.

  28. My favorite pen case? It’s always the next one, right? I love my Rickshaw Bagworks Vangogh design cases, my Galen Kaweco case, and my latest, so far unfilled Lihit Labs case, but…. that leather 10 pen case looks awesome too!
Cases and Notebooks are quite similar… there’s always another one waiting!
    Hahaha

Thanks for doing the awesome drawing!

  29. OOh! What is the pen that is second from the right, the chonk with the flowers?

My favorite case so far and I have two is a Nock Sinclair. I just love how soft, plush and stretchy it is. That said I love Galen Leather and have been wanting to try one of their cases, this new feature sounds pretty slick! Thanks for the opportunity.

  30. Currently my favorite pen case is the Libit Lab book style pen case in coral red. It has plenty of room for pens, A6 notebooks or small puzzle books, ink cartridges, scissors, etc. I’ve liked the looks of Galen’s pen cases for Kaweco pens. I just wasn’t ready to buy a leather pen case. Thank you for the chance to win one.

  31. My favorite case has been my Franklin Christoph Penvelope. I didn’t get leather tho
And it’s showing its age. Plus I have more
Pens than case slots so I need to do something. Winning this would count!

  32. I said I’d never be a twenty-pen-case person, but here I am…..with multiple pen cases…… haha
My current fave is a fabric pen roll in purple brocade that holds six pens. Easy to loop closed and slide into my purse! #Options

  33. Indeed though I love Galen Leather, my current pen case is the Rickshaw Coozy Case in “Blackwatch” Harris Tweed. I am redhaired celt, so this fits me perfectly! But adding Galen to house my collection would make certainly a nice combination of Leather and Tweed!

  34. I tend to use simple sleeves most of the time – this case looks amazing! My favorite pens switch around a bit, but I love Lamy Safari, and my Pilot Falcon and Decimo.

  35. Thanks for the opportunity!
I recently received a Franklin-Christoph 3 pen case that has a removable insert, which is a really nice detail… it would be great to have that feature for a larger case, so this new Galen design would be perfect for a larger collection- cheers! 🙂

  36. My current favorite pen cases are the 10 pen Dee Charles hard cases that I use when storing or transporting my collection. But what I am wanting is a smaller, more portable case to take with me when I am traveling. Would love something like the giveaway case and I would use it to hold my Visconti Homo Sapiens, a Diplomat eLox, and a travelling ink well or sample vials in case I run dry.

  37. My favorite pen case that I have is a six-pen roll from Rickshaw. But sometimes you need more than six pens so this case would be great.

  38. Funny enough, my fav is one of Brad’s designs that I have as the freebie for supporting one of the PA kickstarters. I don’t remember now the exact name of it, maybe Sinclair. LOL It holds 3 pens and a small field notes style notebook.

  39. Beautiful looking pen case!!!
I would store the following pens in it if I was so lucky as to win…
    2x Nakaya piccolo cigars – kuro-tamenuri
Franklin Christoph 01 IPO – black
    Caran d’Ache Ecridor Retro -silver
    Platinum 3776 – black
    Vintage Pelikan 140 – black
    Pelikan 205 – black
    2x Pelikan 400M – black & green striped
    Vintage Parker 180 – silver

Looks like I am pretty boring in my colour choices… like Henry Ford… and colour as long as it is black… and maybe a little silver 🙂
Maybe this case would help break me out of my black addiction 🙂

  40. Favorite pen case is actually some random wired earbuds case from Amazon (Brainwavz) that i use for carrying up to six Kaweco Sports.

  41. Honestly, at home I’m using two IKEA ELLOVEN drawers that I lined with a bit of felt – inexpensive way to get a lot of storage. In my work bag generally lives an Esterbrook sock (sorry, the 2 Go pen cup) or a Lochby 4-pen sleeve. We won’t talk about the drawer full of pen storage cases that I’ve rotated through in the past… 😀

  42. I don’t have a pen case
I have a few fountain pens (entry level)
But you know how this goes….will probably be getting more in time

Thanks for the opportunity to win

  43. I don’t have a pen case. Taking pens with me is usually done in the organizer pocket of my backpack (3-slots). I would store my vintage pens (Shaeffer, Esterbrook, Parker) in this Galen case – would have been handy for taking them to the last local Pen Club meeting!

  44. My favorite pen case is my only pen case, the Lochby Tool Roll. It is a pretty sweet way to carry around pens, and it never fails to impress people as I unlatch the fastener and roll it out!

  45. My favorite pen case? Coincidentally a Galen Leather piece, one of their Magnum Opus 3-pen cases with the removable tray.

  46. I don’t have a pen case but would love one to carry my 2 fountain pens (I am new to the pen obsession). My TWSBI Diamond Mini and my Sailor Lecoule would a cozy place to live while not in use! Thanks for the giveaway.

  47. I don’t have a pen case but I have a lovely pen roll that a friend made. Galen Leather does make beautiful products though so I’d like to try this out!

  48. My Rickshaw Sinclair R is my fave right now. In the Starry Night pattern with the matching 3 pen coozy, it’s fantastic!

  49. I have some pen cases, but honestly, I don’t know their brands. There are no names on them and I’ve had them a long time. One holds about 2 dozen pens, the other holds about 40. What I like about them is that they have two elastic bands so the pens can’t jiggle around and hit each other. I also have a pen case with one elastic band across the pens. I don’t use it much. What I like about the one you’re giving away is that its single band looks extra wide. Plus, who doesn’t like soft leather?

  50. I’m very fond of my green three slot little Nock Co case for day to day stuff. I can fit a mechanical pencil, a couple of ballpoint jotters and a chonky pen-and that is about all I need. Now what I want is another matter! (I have lots of fountain pens in various cute solo wraps, but that isn’t really a case, is it?)

  51. The Rickshaw pen roll is my go-to ‘case’ at this point. I love it, but it doesn’t work in all situations (especially if I am carrying more pens). I’ve been trying to experiment with some others but I can’t find anything that works well for my needs and because of the cost of pen cases I don’t want to buy uselessly. Rickshaw will always be one of my favorites, but I would love to have another on hand that is functional when the pen roll isn’t.

  52. My favorite pen case is a Rickshaw zippered pouch with the Japanese Great Wave design. I keep a Lamy Safari set and a Moleskine notebook inside. A little bulky, but easy to grab and lightweight.
